The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes out on December 14, 2012 and will contain Smaug. If you have watched Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, then you know that there are references to Bilbo and Smaug in it. This amazing Smaug cake was made by the Cakerator. It took 4 days to make a cake of this amazing detail. The dragon was composed of lemon cake, white chocolate ganache, modeling chocolate, and fondant; all on top of an elaborate internal structure. The wings were made from copper tubes welded together and then covered in modeling chocolate. The membrane of the wings were a mixture of fondant, modeling chocolate, and gum paste. The excellent color variations of Smaug were obtained by using an airbrush. Jewels were even embedded into the skin on the chest.
The figure of Bilbo and the chalice were added to the cake.
