The Fourth of July for me is always focused on the men who have died fighting for our freedom. That’s why when I saw these cakes I knew I had to post them.
“And the rockets red glare and the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.”
These were made by Dick & Jeannie Thompson’s daughter from Christ Episcopal Church in Alexandria, Virginia. She made a separate cake for each Armed Force including the Coast Guard. You can see the cakes at Christ Church Alexandria Flickr Photostream.
“If the Army and the Navy ever look on heaven’s scenes
They will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines.”
“We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey!
Nothing’ll stop the U.S. Air Force!”
“Blue of the Seven Seas; Gold of God’s great sun
Let these our colors be Till all of time be done-n-n-ne”
“March along, sing our song, with the Army of the free
“We’re “Always Ready,” do or die!
Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you”
As you probably figured out the five cakes are followed by a line from the anthem of that Armed Force.
The design and the difference between the five cakes is spectacular. The way each cake has a different color scheme and the seal on the top truly makes a perfect package. I want to end the post by saying a big
“Thank You!”
to everyone who has served or is serving. We can’t say it enough.
