Steampunk Sugar Geeks is a collaboration between cake decorators which celebrates steampunk. For the last few days, I’ve been featuring a bunch of these awesome steampunk cakes. Today, I’m featuring steampunk cakes that focus on fantasy. This includes a flying pig, a mermen, and a unicorn.
The amazing steampunk flying pig cake shown above was made by The Wicked Little Cake Company. I can’t figure out if I’m supposed to say “Aw” because the pig is so cute or “Wow” because it the cake is so gorgeous.
Henrick the Wonder Pig is easily the cutest flying pig in town. That Henrick is wearing steampunk goggles, a bow tie, and hat only add to his cuteness.
Henrick is made from chocolate and fondant. While his wings are made from wafer paper. The clouds? White cotton candy. So for once, they really are cotton candy clouds.
This steampunk Abe Sapien Cake was made by CAKES BY TIMBO. Abe Sapien is a poplar character from Mike Mignola’s Hellboy Comics and has appears in both Hellboy movies.
Abe began life as Victorian scientist and businessman. He became involved with the Oannes Society which transformed him into his current state. Since Abe is a merman, the steampunk collar you see him wearing provides water to his gills.
Timbo siad that one of the reasons that he chose Abe was that the character was already very popular in steampunk cosplays.
"A Leap of Faith” was made by Lickity Split Cakes. The cake is about an "ordinary" unicorn that leaps through a giant gear portal to transport her into a steampunk world.
Mara used many different sugar techniques and mediums for her piece including wafer paper, modeling chocolate, and fondant.
It is really cool how the two sides of the ramp are similar to each other. On one side. the ramp looks like a rainbow surrounded by clouds. On the other side, the ramp is still multicolored but the colors are richer and have patterns impressed in them.
