A Tribute To Walt Disney Cake

This Marvelous Tribute To Walt Disney Cake was made by Fatto di Zucchero. She titled the cake, Where Dreams Begin: Tribute to Walt Disney. This Marvelous Disney cake has a bust of Walt Disney holding a sketch of Mickey Mouse in Steamboat Willie, Mickey’s first cartoon with synchronized sound. Walt is surrounded by sketches of Disney characters from many Disney animated movies. Laying up and down the cake, framing Walt Disney is a film strip of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

I like the way that some of the drawings have patches of color and some have parts that are color and three dimensional. This is a great way to represent the origin of a Disney movie. It starts as an idea inside Walt’s head. It becomes a series of pencil sketches that he draws. The sketches get color added, and evolve to the three dimensional characters of a full length animated Disney film. 

The bust of Walt Disney is in black and white. His jacket and tie and hair are black. His shirt and face are white. The bust of Walt is resting on a large flat cake covered in black icing with a stucco pattern.  Mickey Mouse is using the ship’s wheel to pilot the steamboat in this Steamboat Willie sketch. The sketch is attached to a clipboard.

The back of the cake has sketches of Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella holding a broom in her hand from Cinderella, and Marie from The Aristocats.

The blue Genie from Aladdin has become a full color three dimensional figure rising up from the pencil drawing.

Alice is rising up from a pencil sketch of Alice In Wonderland.

The film strip for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs starts with the film title and then follows with pictures of each of the seven dwarfs. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first feature length animated movie. It was produced back in 1937 and Walt Disney was awarded an honorary Oscar for the film.
