KupKake Tree made this wonderful Muppets Cake for the Threadcakes competition.
The cake is based on this wonderful t-shirt by Christopher Phillips.
Threadcake requires that all entries be 100% edible, so Gonzuela’s amazing cake doesn’t include any non-edible support systems.
The cake itself was based on a recipe from Elvis Presley! Gonzuela wrote “This year I tried out "Elvis Presley's Favorite Pound cake" recipe. I have never felt a cake so dense in my life. I've lifted children lighter than this cake. I am pretty sure it could stop a punch from Mike Tyson. The density made it very solid and great for supporting all the weight of the decorations and didn't even sag like I was worried it would. It also tasted pretty good too and surprisingly no one suffered broken teeth.”
The detail on the cake is wonderful. Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker are riding a bike which is floating in the air held up with balloons. Mount Rushmore features Statler and Waldorf, Fozzie Bear, and Gonzo. Animal, the Swedish Chef, and Miss Piggy are riding in hot air balloon’s above Mount Rushmore. Miss Piggy’s hot air balloon looks like Kermit the Frog. A chicken has jumped out of the Swedish Chef’s hot air balloon.
Gonzuela made sugar sticks to hold up the three large hot air balloons. The characters were hand sculpted from gumpaste. Gonzuela outlined and hand painted large parts of the cake so that she could recreate the rich detail and vibrant colors found in the T-Shirt. The end results is a beautiful cake that is overflowing with tons of little details.
