This Marvelous cake was created for the Steam Cakes – Steampunk Collaboration. To celebrate the Steampunk International Day, Cake Artists from around the world gathered to create their own edible Steampunk masterpieces.
This cake looks like a man perched on the top of the mast of a ship where the rest of the ship has sunk beneath the waves. The man is the lookout of the ship. He is wearing a horned helmet that has metal gears on it. There are intricately designed gears in front of him.
This Merman Steampunk Cake was made by Daniel Dieguez of Daniel Dieguez / Cake Artist.
The merman has five metal rings with a pearl in the center on his tail and his tail is copper colored to have an almost metallic finish. His hair is blue and he is wearing a crown that compliments the other rings. There are fish swimming around him and green, white, and red seaweed below him. If you look closely you can see an oyster with a large pearl.

I thought to take steampunk style just under the sea and I thought about how a mermaid could be transformed into a steampunk one: a mechanical mermaid! The thing I had much fun to imagine in a steampunk way was the fin that I changed into a propeller. This 3-D sculpted cake is designed for sea or air travel. This edible steamship has metal gears and chimneys. One chimney leads up to a hot air balloon so that ship can take to the air. The trim of the ship and hot air balloon are metal.
