I made these Mickey Oreos and Mickey and Minnie Chocolates for a 30th Wedding Anniversary party where the bride and groom wore Mickey and Minnie Mouse Ears.
I looked out on the web for ideas and found many versions of the Mickey oreos. I thought they were so cute, I just had to make them.
I had fun making them and I wanted to share these step by step instructions.
Mickey Oreos ingredients:
oreo cookies
mini oreo cookies
red candy melts
chocolate candy melts
yellow petal dust
cocoa butter
paint brushes
I melted the red candy melts in the microwave for 15 seconds at a time, stirring each time, then warming some more until they were melted.
I dipped the oreo about halfway into the red candy melts to make Mickey’s pants colors.
I laid the colored oreo onto parchment paper to let dry.
I melted the chocolate candy melts in the microwave for 15 seconds at a time, stirring each time, then warming some more until they were melted.
I took a miniature oreo cookie and dipped it in chocolate and placed it onto the large cookie to look like Mickey’s ear. I repeated the process for the other ear.
I let the cookies dry on the parchment paper until the chocolate set.
(If you place the parchment paper on a pan before adding the cookies, you can transfer them into the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes to set the chocolate quicker.)
I melted some cocoa butter and added a small amount of coloring. Cocoa butter is a great thing to use to paint chocolate because it paints nicely, will not smudge or wipe off accidentally, and does not add bulk to the chocolate like colored chocolate would.
Using cocoa butter colored yellow with yellow petal dust, I painted on the yellow buttons onto Mickey’s pants using a paint brush.
(I have a set of paint brushes that I only use for cakes)
I used colored cocoa butter to paint patterns onto the Mickey head chocolates.
I painted one to look like it was wearing a hat or Mickey ears. For Minnie I painted bows and coordinating dress colors on the bottom and for Mickey I painted his red shorts and yellow buttons.
I made Mickey heads with the bottom are colored like Mickey’s pants. Minnie has a pink bow or a red bow for the white chocolate. For the dark chocolate she has a red and white polka dot bow with matching bottom to look like Minnie’s dress.
The initials for the anniversary couple were J and M so I put a J on the Minnie and an M on the Mickey.
