Avengers: Endgame premieres this week! To celebrate, I’m declaring this Avengers Week on Between The Pages. Each day, I’ll be featuring an amazing cake or cake topper spotlighting one of the Avengers.
I wanted to start with Hawkeye. This great Hawkeye and Captain America Cake was made by Marzia Caruso.
I’ve always been surprised by how little of a role Hawkeye has played in the Avengers movies. In the comic books, Hawkeye is one of the main Avengers.
Three neat facts about Hawkeye in the comics:
First, there was a long period where Hawkeye wasn’t an archer. You know how Ant-Man on occasions can increase his size and become giant? In the comics, Hawkeye uses Hank Pym’s serum and gains the ability to become giant sized. This isn’t a one time gimmick either. This went on for at least 30 issues in the 1960s.
Second, if you watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., you are probably familiar with Bobbi Morse, aka Mockingbird. Hawkeye and Mockingbird were married for a few years.
Third, since the Avengers were located on the east coast, the Avengers opened a second branch called the West Coast Avengers and Hawkeye was the leader of that team. West Coast Avengers lasted for just over 100 issues.
