I made this 3rd Birthday Purple Dinosaur Cake for a three year old who loves dinosaurs and also loves the color purple. The focus of the cake is the dinosaur. The cake itself is made to be an almost invisible background canvas for the dinosaur. It is a vanilla butter cake with almond flavored white chocolate ganache. The large white dinosaur egg is a cake ball covered in white chocolate. Also the dinosaur egg has the number 3 to represent the birthday age. The birthday name is written is purple letters on the cake board.
To make the purple dinosaur for the birthday cake:
First I cut the dinosaur shape out of purple fondant using a cute dinosaur coloring sheet as a template. Then I put a black fondant background on the dinosaur to make it visible. Next I added purple fondant for the legs, snout, and the tail. Next I airbrushed the dinosaur with dark purple airbrush color in the creases to give it more depth and dimension. After that I added the white for the neck and gave it a light airbrush spray to have it blend in with the rest of the dinosaur. Then I added the white spots to the body and the eyes, the red tongue, and the white toenails.
Here’s a picture of the cake set up for the birthday party celebration. It has a birthday party hat beside it. In addition there are three cake balls with candles on top.
