I watched Home Alone 2 for the first time with my Daughter and Son-in-law two days before Christmas. If you like slap stick comedy, you’ll love this. It is a really funny movie. Macaulay Culkin was an amazing kid actor and Joe Pesci & Daniel Stern are absolutely incredible with all of their physical comedy. Even though Christmas is over, when I saw these Home Alone 7th Birthday Cookies, I had to share them.
These wonderful cookies were made by sveta_kim84. My favorite thing about these cookies is that they look like cartoon versions of the movie characters. Like many artists, Sveta_Kim keeps a library of reference pictures on Pinterest. She’d accumulated some great drawing of the Home Alone characters, but never used them until this cookie order. From these reference drawings, she was able to create cartoon version of Kevin, Harry and Marv.
There are only three cookies in this set, so photographing them is really hard. The fewer cookies, the more you have to zoom in and the more the flaws in your cookies stand out. The staging of these cookies is fantastic. The wicker mats and balls & the red checkered tablecloth accent the cookies and make a great setting for these photos.
While writing up these cookies, I discovered two pieces of cool Home Alone trivia.
First, Joe Pesci’s character is usually just referred to as Harry. Harry’s last name is Lime. That’s a tribute to the great Orson Welles. In the movie The Third Man, Orson Welles plays Harry Lime. Orson saw so much potential in the character Harry Lime that Orson did The Adventures of Harry Lime radio series. On radio, Harry Lime is the unluckiest con man around. While he always escapes the law, he never get the girl or the money.
Second, Joe Pesci’s character isn’t the brightest character in the world. But, he is significantly wiser than his inept sidekick, Daniel Stern’s Marv. One of my favorite comedy movies is City Slickers. In it, Billy Crystal has two sidekicks – a handsome Italian and a complete loser named Phil. I never realized that Daniel Stern plays both Marv and Phil. While they’re both loveable losers, they’re so different, I didn’t realize they were played by the same actor.
This is the first time I’ve featured Home Alone on Between the Pages, but I’ve featured other great movie cakes:
